Through the month April – Display: "DOG – America’s favorite pet".
The "Window on America" center in Dnipro presents for the patrons a book and image display that will both surprise and entertain. The display showcases interesting facts and rare photos. For example, the US Presidents with their pet dogs.
The display is complemented with the items from Galyna Drozd’s collection. The DOUNB Library activist has a collection “All about dogs” which comprises magazines, calendars with dog images and toy dogs.

The session of the Gabfest Club in Dnipro Window on America center started with the introductions of the first-timers who explained why they decided to join the Club.
To warm up the group shared their experiences of the Ukraine’s Independence week-end with our foreign guest Mr. Nathan. Some people travelled, some people stayed in town or at home. But everyone enjoyed the celebration of the Independence Day.
The official topic of the session was “Graffiti in the USA and in Ukraine”. We have watched several videos about the place of graffiti in the modern American art. Some people think it is vandalism. The graffiti artists think it’s art. The group had to watch a video about street art festival in Dnipro city and render into English for Mr. Nathan the fun facts about graffiti artists and vandals.

Zoreslav Baydiuk at Window on America center in Dnipro, Ukraine.
The «Voice of America» Ukrainian service has a unique opportunity to convey to its audience in Ukraine the first hand information about the life in the United States. Mr. Zoreslav Baydiuk and other reporters travel to the most remote corners of the country and show real life America.
At the meeting Mr. Baydiuk featured the video sketches series «America. Off the Highway».
The guests watched the videos with curiosity and asked a lot of questions afterword.
The Dnipro audience’s feedback was very important for Mr. Baydiuk. The «Voice of America» wants to know the opinion of the Ukrainian public, what topics would be interesting for the Ukrainian viewers. The «Voice of America» journalists appreciate the viewers’ thoughts; they will take them into account during the creation of new “Voice of America” programs.

These programs contribute to the understanding between Ukraine and the United States, after watching them Ukrainians become more informed, more tolerant and friendly.

A big group of Dnipro "Window on America" patrons watched a film about the American art. Art is the driving force of social processes; it helps to combat negative phenomena and to draw attention to global social problems.
The highlight of the film was a virtual tour of the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Visiting this world known museum online was a wonderful option for people who live on another continent!

"Window on America” Dnipro continues to participate in the project “WOA Special” from the famous US broadcaster “Voice of America”.
The project is offered by the "Voice of America”’s Ukrainian service and the popular Ukrainian journalist Zoreslav Baydyuk who works in the USA.
Today WOA’s regular patrons – students of the "Activate English" Express Course – arrived to the class earlier than usual to watch a documentary. This afternoon they will learn about innovative approaches to agri-business in the USA.
Our Ukrainian viewers were surprised that in US the popularity of agri-tourism is growing. Both children and adults are interested in growing vegetables. Natural dairy products can now be purchased from farmers and urban gardens where people grow vegetables themselves become very popular.
The Americans have realized the value of organic vegetables, the food waste issues are also debated in the communities.
To encourage Ukrainians to engage into agri-business in Ukraine the film-makers suggest such source of income as breeding of alpacas - South American lamas.
We are grateful to the Voice of America’s Ukrainian service and the US State Department for the opportunity to learn more interesting and helpful facts about the life in USA.We will additionally announce the screening of the next VOA’s series.

Colorful brochure display of promo materials kindly sent to WOA by American universities is offered to the patrons. It reminds the "Window on America" visitors about the opportunity to study in the USA, a chance to receive a scholarship, a possibility to travel to the USA during summer holidays.
Today a big group of WOA’s patrons took part in a session attended by “EDUCATION USA” representative – Ms. Kateryna. She made a concise, but informative presentation in front of a big audience – DOUNB library’s patrons who improve their English language skills with WOA’s free resources and the WOA’s staff instructions.
Young people asked Ms. Kateryna further questions about the chances to continue studies in the USA. Maybe someone from the audience is now one step closer to his dream – to study in the USA.

Today’s session of the Gabfest Club (at Window on America center Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine) was dedicated to the Celebration of Chinese New Year. To start the ball rolling the group was offered several images to describe. The most interesting conversation was about the images with the artifacts of Chinese culture: coins, utensils, etc.
The conversation led us to the topic of the Chinese Zodiac. The Chinese animal zodiac is a repeating cycle of 12 years, with each year being represented by an animal and its reputed attributes. Traditionally these zodiac animals were used to date the years. In order, the 12 animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

books on Chinese Art .The task was to give the name of the animal and tell if it belongs to the Chinese zodiac.
The second part of the session was dedicated to the life of Chinese community in the USA. We have watched several videos about the history of celebration of the Chinese New Year in the USA, about the culture of the America-born Chinese. We made a list of popular Hollywood actors of Chinese origin.
The club members enjoyed the topic and were glad to share their experiences of contacts with Chinese people in Ukraine.

To observe the anniversary of the 32nd US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the US President's Day the Window on America Center (Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine) presented to the patrons a book and portrait display 'Franklin Delano Roosevelt’.
A democrat and an outstanding personality, he is the only US President who was elected for four presidential terms. F. Roosevelt became president during the Great Depression in the USA. He started major industrial projects to revive the US economy and to reform social programs. These actions made him very popular among the US population.
Books and illustrations from the WOA’s collection show FDR in the family circle. His wife Eleanor Roosevelt was a very socially active First Lady. She encouraged her husband to build a political career, helped him to overcome illness and was always engaged in charity.

The "Window on America" center (Dnipropetrovsk / Ukraine) had a presentation for those wishing to improve their English skills.
Within the frame work of the “Discover USA” project Window on America Dnipropetrovsk arranged a short session for the school #141 students.
School students watched a slide show about the city of Washington D.C. – the capital of the USA. The WOA’s Head Svitlana who has been to Washington city shared her positive emotions about the trip to the USA.
The presentation covered numerous aspects – the history of the capital, the geography of the area, the beautiful architecture of the city, the capital’s heart – National Mall, wonderful memorials in honor of the US presidents, Library of Congress’s and the White House’s interiors. At the end of the meeting, the students watched a video about the Washington D.C.
Children listened to the presentation of the useful library resources for languages’ study and free resources for improving the English skills too. They examined the WOA’s technical equipment, the books and DVDs collections, book & image display “If you want to study in the USA” and paper show “America 24/7”.
The teachers reviewed the promotional trailer about the library resources and received promotional materials.
