Today’s session of the GABFEST Club (at Window on America center Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine) was dedicated to the observance of the World Animal Day. World Animal Day is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on October 4, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. It started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence (Italy). They wished to highlight the plight of endangered species.
The group watched the World Animal Day promo video of the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. Launched on December 8, 2010 the Foundation is aimed to educate people on the importance of protecting the environment and animals. "Instead of gifts this year, my birthday wish is that we come together and raise funds to support projects that protect our habitat and nurture our furry friends” wrote Mr. Somerhalder, an American actor, model and director.
The group has enriched the vocabulary with numerous terms to the topics “Endangered species” and “Animal welfare”. A slide show with unique photos of rare animals was offered for discussion.
The session was attended by our foreign guests – Mr. Eric (Australia) and Mr. Jason (USA).The Club members had a chance to listen to their stories about wildlife in their home countries and to ask them various relevant questions.
Number of participants – 37 persons.
