This morning the WOA Dnipro facilitated the DOUNB’s skills up-grade training for regional libraries’ personnel. The WOA’s audio-visual equipment was used for the presentations about the modern methods of library operations.
The WOA Dnipro’s staff member T. Gavryliuk offered to the training participants the WOA’s promotional flyers, presented the new Big Book decoration and the free resources of the WOA Center.
The librarians from the provincial libraries promised to promote the WOA Dnipro among their patrons and partner schools.
Participants number – 27 persons.

Директор ДОУНБ Надія Тітова та координатор центру «Вікно в Америку» Світлана Усенко брали участь в всеукраїнському семінарі «Інформаційно-просвітницька діяльність у центрах "Вікно в Америку" в Україні» для директорів національних, обласних, вузівських бібліотек та для координаторів інформаційно-ресурсних центрів «Вікно в Америку», який підготували працівники Посольства США в Україні та гостинно зустрічала Полтавська обласна універсальна наукова бібліотека ім. І. П. Котляревського.
Під час панельної презентації «Центр "Вікно в Америку" очима директора бібліотеки» відбулося підписання Угоди про взаєморозуміння між відділом преси, освіти та культури Посольства США та Дніпропетровською обласною універсальною науковою бібліотекою.
Представники ДОУНБ брали активну участь в обговоренні напрямів підтримки реформ в Україні, яку можуть надавати центри «Вікно в Америку», в розробці креативних програм на основі п’яти тематичних блоків (освіта в США, робота з випускниками програм обміну, вивчення англійської мови, культура в США, інформація про США). Окремі сесії були присвячені проекту сприяння академічної доброчесності та боротьбі з плагіатом; менеджменту грантів; курсу «Англійська мова на допомогу медіаграмотності» на інтернет-платформі courserа.org. Про втілення якого розповіла координатор центру під час сесії «Досвід фасилітації масового відкритого онлайнового курсу «Англійська мова для медіаграмотності»: виклики та результати».
Дискусії, обмін досвідом, сесія на тему «Центри «Вікно в Америку» і українські національна та обласна стратегії розвитку» окреслили подальшу діяльність над впровадженням інноваційних послуг для користувачів.
2016 Year of English in Ukraine events continue!
"Window on America" Head Svitlana Usenko addressed the training course students who were the chief library bibliographers from the Dnipropetrovsk province. In her speech she stressed the need to plan activities in advance, to look for volunteers and language experts to implement the events. She proposed a list of topics that will be appropriate for cultural and educational sessions; recommended the names of famous American writers and artists for library events; described the popular event formats: an English-speaking club, a film screening, a lecture, a presentation, a musical evening, game time, etc. S. Usenko mentioned and promoted a "library bike ride" as an activity that is gaining popularity among library community in Ukraine. Librarians received a compilations of electronic materials produced at the "Window on America" center.
They will help the librarians to prepare activities that will motivate library patrons of all ages to learn English, to improve the language skills of those who’re already studying it intensively.

She showed the slide-show presentation about the DOUNB library, library electronic catalog, free resources and most popular activities of the Window on America center.
The modern literature on teaching methods for TEFLA were offered.
She informed the teachers about the free

DOUNB Library was visited by a group of the English language teachers who attend a course at the Training Center of the local Education Department.
At the Foreign documents Department of the DOUNB Library they were offered a wide choice of modern literature on teaching methods for TEFL.
The WOA center Head, Svitlana Usenko, made a presentation about books and films available at the center. She informed the teachers about the free resources available on-line and recommended by the US State Department:
- Rosetta Stone software
- the software Trace Effects
- on-line resources (American Online English, Voice of America The Classroom…) for the English language study recommended by the US State department.

The PC volunteer Patrick Kelly invited the teachers to attend the weekly sessions of the WOA’s speaking club where they can listen to the American English.
The guests were impressed by the range of the technical equipment available at the WOA center – several PC stations, multimedia projector, modern gadgets (Kindle and iPad), Rosetta Stone software, etc. All these resources can help anyone to study English.
The teachers enjoyed the New Year’s photo display about a town in North Dakota state – “Winter Wonderland in Fargo”.
