Today’s session of the ESC was held in the frame of
the CITY DAY celebration and took place ON THE ROCKS of the city’s central
Lazar Globa Park.
Before the session started all the club members had a
chance to attend the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Libraries’ Fair where the WOA
Dnipropetrovsk was represented by a separate stand displaying American
electronic gadgets and educational games for children.
The highlight of the session was a visit of the Novomoskovsk English Speaking Club organized by the
Peace Corp volunteer Mrs. Joanna Luongo.
After short introductions of the club members from
both sides the guests from the town of Novomoskovsk told us about their
activities and achievements. The club was named “Open Borders” as it facilitates
opening of new horizons to persons who enrich their knowledge with a foreign
language.
One of the achievements of the “Open Borders” Club was
editing of the English-Russian newsletter for the readers and visitors of the
local Library. The Club’s founder Mrs. Joanna Luongo helped the Library to win
a grant for computer equipment. The activities of the Peace Corp volunteer
Joanna and her Ukrainian counterparts were described in the article of the
local newspaper “Visnyk Prysamarija” (Samara River valley
Herald).
To round up the session the Dnipropetrovsk ESC members
told the city guests about the founder of the old park - Cossack Lazar Globa -
and invited them to make a group photo in front of the L.Hloba monument.
