Have you ever met a traveling exhibition: Gallery on the Go?
The traveling exhibition of posters "Public Library" by the American photographer Robert Dawson has arrived to the DOUNB Library. This cultural event was organized by the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, the America House Cultural Center and the IREX (Council for International Research and Exchanges, Kyiv).
Members of the “GABFEST” English-speaking club (Window on America center, misto Dnipro, Ukraine) with great interest examined Robert Dawson’s photo works displayed by the Information and Resource Center "Window to America".
There are almost 17,000 public libraries in the United States of America. All of them are different; each one has its own peculiarity. The communities of large cities have built and kept modern computerized libraries with theater halls and creative workshops. Provincial towns and villages have small, but cozy and well-stocked libraries. Every American resident can visit a library nearest to his home in order to find information, to meet popular writers, to attend concerts, to surf the Internet, to search for work online, to relax in beautiful interiors, or even to have a wedding. All this in addition to lending books.
Public libraries in America give the opportunity to access information. Information is freedom; freedom is what everyone needs for personal development and growth.
We invite everyone who likes books and libraries to get acquainted with the exhibition “Public Library in the USA”.
The exhibition is displayed on the premises of the Foreign Languages department of the DOUNB Library (Dnipro, prospekt D.Yavornytskogo, room 18).

This morning a group of English language teachers from Dnipro oblast visited the DOUNB Library as part of their skills up-grading training.
The WOA staff member familiarized them with the political poster display with the theme “Corruption is…”.
The teachers were informed about the free resources available at WOA Dnipro and invited to cooperate in social networks and via the video-conferencing.
Participants number – 20 persons.
WOA Dnipro offered its patrons a travelling exhibition of posters with the topic “Corruption is…”.
Corruption is a major issue in Ukraine and WOA Dnipro’s patrons discussed this topic previously at the sessions of the English-speaking Club.
This time the WOA patrons may examine 13 posters from the 4th International Contests “Stop Censorship! Citizens for Free Countries”.
The selected works criticize corruption, promote access to information and highlight anti-corruption practices.
The exhibition emphasizes the importance of art as an effective tool for raising awareness about social issues.

Our Library, supports the Year of English in Ukraine!
Our Window on America Center in Dnipropetrovsk supports the Year of English in Ukraine!
On William Shakespeare’s birthday the DOUNB library staff and readers-volunteers took part in the flash mob aimed at promotion of English among the local hospitality establishments personnel. The posters which presented the Ukraine-English phrases essential for servicing the foreign visitors were distributed at the local restaurants and cafes. Printing of colorful phrase-posters was a courtesy of the US Embassy in Ukraine. Restaurant and café employees are interested in improving their English skills to provide good services to foreign customers. They are willing to cooperate with the DOUNB library.
DOUNB library and the "Window on America" Information and Resource Center support the” Year of English” in Ukraine and are offering free express courses of the English language to the library patrons.
The second enrollment to the “Express English” groups starts as follows: May, 17 – “Activate English” and May, 19 – “Basic English”.
