The 8th grade students of High school No. 23 (with focus on English study) visited the WOA centre together with their teachers Ms. Yulia and Ms. Maryna. In the framework of the project “Discover USA” the WOA Head S.Usenko introduced to the group the World Health Day.
A colorful slide show introduced several topics that were focus of previous World Health Days - among them dangers of antibiotics overuse and self- administering. Several funny cartoons and slide shows reminded the children the basic rule of health – the correct way of washing hands.
Other topics introduced to the students in a funny way were - everyday healthy diet (fresh meat, seasonal fruits and vegetables, clean water); bad influence of fast food and sweet soft drinks on one’s health.
M.Obama’s address to American children was demonstrated to remind about the importance of daily physical activities.
The information from the demonstrated videos triggered a vivid discussion – children shared their own healthy habits of doing morning exercises, going to the gym and taking vitamins.
The WOA staff hopes that healthy habits and new information about them will be useful to the schoolchildren.
Number of participants – 37 (33 students, 2 teachers, 2 librarians)
