Today’s session at the GABFEST speaking club (at
Window on America center Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine) had a topic “OPERA HOUSE”.
A group of Club members have visited the Dnipropetrovsk Opera House
backstage prior to the session. Our tour guide was Ms. Daria Belaya, the young and talented chief artist of the theater. Among the theater visitors
were our foreign friends from USA and Germany. This was their first visit
backstage and they have been impressed with their new experience.
One of the surprising facts was a premier show
of this season at the Dnipropetrovsk Opera. The new performance has a title “Jesus”. The music used in the
performance was written by an American
composer John Debny.
J.C. Debney is a film composer who was Academy Award nominated for his score for Mel Gibson's “The Passion
of the Christ”. Mr.
Debney has donated the right to use his
music in the “Jesus” performance at the Dnipropetrovsk Opera Theater.
The participants of the theater tour shared
their impressions with the club members. The topic about the Opera reminded us
about the forthcoming Xmas season. We all decided to pay a visit to
Dnipropetrovsk Opera this winter. The first choice will be one more premier of this season - “The SNOW QUEEN”.
Our American friends will start the acquaintance with the theater at the
Tchaikovsky’s ballet “Nutcracker” on Sunday.
The unofficial part of the session was a conversation
with our new club member from Nigeria. Toby told us about his home country and
answered several questions asked by Ukrainian club members.
