Academic Integrity - a path to studying at the American University

Head of the Information and Resource Center "Window to America" Svitlana Usenko addressed a group of students from partner   schools №23, №141 and community College for Culture.
She made a presentation "Academic Integrity - a path to study at the American University”."
At first, the students learned several fun facts  about the DOUNB Library history and the mission of the Window to America center. They watched a video about the modern services offered at WOA and learned about the opportunity to improve the English skills in the library for free. Students watched an educational video that emphasized the need to work hard and daily to acquire academic knowledge. Students learned the terms "plagiarism" and "academic integrity", the rules of citation that allow to use only up to 20% of the quoted text in academic writing. The students were surprised to know that Wikipedia is not a source of academic information.

In senior classes ambitious students start to write research papers for scientific projects, they need to prepare themselves for the Graduation Tests and University studies. The ability to distinguish plagiarism from non-plagiarism, familiarity with the quotation rules, and the awareness of the codes of honor in colleges – all these steps will lead today’s school kids to a successful academic career.
A selection of English-language videos revealed the importance of the plagiarism problem in American universities and the inevitability of punishment for its use.
The presentation also used the “Strengthening Academic Integrity in Ukraine” Project (SAIUP)  materials. Now a bigger number of Dnipro city students will think about academic integrity and its benefits  for future academic life.

The number of participants – 45 persons.
