The members of the “Wednesday Movie Club” at Window on America center Dnipro, Ukraine, had watched a Cemetery Junction.
Cemetery Junction is a 2010 coming-of-age comedy-drama film. A coming-of-age story is a genre that focuses on the growth of a protagonist from youth to adulthood ("coming of age"). Coming-of-age stories tend to emphasize dialogue or internal monologue over action, and are often set in the past. The subjects of coming-of-age stories are typically teenagers.
British authors and comedians Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (lives and works in the USA) directed the film. It is a big-hearted movie about working-class lads from the sticks. The guys want to get off with girls and get on with their lives, but feel a gravitational pull of loyalty to each other and to their boring, boring hometown - Cemetery Junction. It is presented in the film as a working-class suburb with its own train station and stone maisonettes. It could be a district in any town or city in England in the 70s.
The film had mixed reception. But the British Daily Mirror gave the film a very positive review awarding it four stars and saying: "The film is no simple-minded laugh-fest, but rather an astute, amusing and engaging coming-of-age tale with a killer soundtrack of 1970s classics".
The Movie Club members discussed the film and the majority of the viewers found some merits in it.
Participants number – 7 persons.
