Dnipro City Day celebrations at DniproWOA

This afternoon the Gabfest Club session was dedicated to the Anniversary of the Dnipro City foundation. To start the ball rolling the group was asked to tell our American volunteers about such tourist attractions of the city as fortresses.  The group briefed the guests on the fun historical facts about the fortresses and recommended the interesting events that take place there (Rock festivals, Cossack festivals, medieval festivals, etc.).
In the official part of the session we have decided to tell our American guests about the City’s international partners. This allowed us to introduce the topic of “sister city”. Sister cities are a form of legal or social agreement between towns, cities, counties, oblasts, prefectures, provinces, regions, states, and even countries in geographically and politically distinct areas to promote cultural and commercial ties. We have watched a video about the Sister Cities International and the friendship between the US and China capital cities. The group told the American guests about the present Dnipro’s sister cities and suggested the sister city for Dnipro in the USA. The suggestions ranged from Washington to Houston and Detroit. We also analyzed the   list of sister cities in Ukraine and USA and talked about the benefits of such friendship.
 

In the second part of the session our US volunteer Mr. Jason shared his travel experiences around Baltic and Scandinavian countries. The Club members asked Jason many questions as many of them visited the Baltic capitals earlier.
