American English Day

The meeting of English speaking club "GABFEST" was dedicated to the American English Day.
The meeting started with the introductions of club members to our American guest Mr. Jason.
Tamara Gavryliuk, the club’s moderator, offered the group a slide show with materials compiled from the American English FB page and website. The group was introduced to on-line resources that one can use at their own convenience. The funny exercise that made everyone laugh was a phonetic one – Color Vowels. It proved how much we still have to work to pronounce the American sounds correctly.

The slide presentation introduced the group to several groups of synonyms, phrasal verbs and idioms. Club members realized how far from the ideal American pronunciation is their personal pronunciation, and set a goal to train the ear and pronunciation.
The second part of the meeting took the form of a question & answer. Our American guest Mr. Jason gladly answered questions of those who were not shy.
The session was very informative and useful as the American phonetics is vital to understanding native speakers.
Participants number – 19 persons.
