The Wednesday Movie Club was screening the first part of the movie "Lawrence of Arabia".
This British film is regarded as a masterpiece of world cinema and is ranked highly on many lists of the best films ever made. The movie is the winner of 7 Academy Awards (Oscar) including the 1962 “Best Picture” award .The American Film Institute ranked the film 7th in its updated list of the greatest films and first in its list of the greatest films of the "epic" genre. In 1991, the film was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Lawrence of Arabia, a young intelligence officer in Cairo in 1916, is given leave to investigate the progress of the Arab revolt against the Turks in World War I. In the desert, he organizes a guerrilla army and for two years leads the Arabs in harassing the Turks with desert raids, train-wrecking and camel attacks. Eventually, he leads his army northward and helps a British General destroy the power of the Ottoman Empire.
