Display: The Smithsonian Institution

To mark the 167th anniversary of the Smithsonian Institution a book display was presented at the Window on America Center in Dnipropetrovsk.
The Smithsonian Institution established in 1846 is a group of museums and research centers administered by the United States government. The institution’s mission is «the increase and diffusion of knowledge,"
Its holdings of 137 million items are housed in 19 museums, 9 research centers, and a zoo. The facility is considered to be the largest such complex in the world. Additional facilities are located in Arizona, Maryland, New York City, Virginia, Panama and elsewhere.  The museum registers 30 million annual visitors who are admitted without charge.
The Smithsonian has a large number of traveling exhibitions and close ties with 168 other museums in 39 states.
