Independence Day in the USA

Today’s session was dedicated to the celebration of the Independence Day in the USA.
It started with a pleasant surprise – a visit of the shooting crew from the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast state TV channel. Two weeks ago the WOA administration was invited to tell about its activities in the start of the day program “The Morning Newscocktail”. It was a pleasant surprise to find out that both the program’s director Tatiana and the host Alex has visited the USA earlier and are fluent in English. They have received an invitation to attend one of the ESC sessions. Apparently Tatiana was interested in a deeper coverage of the WOA center activities and arrived to interview the participants on the premises in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Universal Library (DOUNB). Luckily enough our PCV friends happened to be in town and managed to attend the session in between their preparations for summer projects. The session started with the introduction of the TV crew and interviews with the American guests and the Ukrainian Club members. Tatiana impressed everybody as she conducted the interviews with the US volunteers in English.
The cameraman stayed with us even longer to shoot the atmosphere of the Club’s meeting. To start with Patrick introduced his PCV friend Eddi Williams who came to visit from Ivano- Frankivsk oblast. The Club members asked Eddi a lot of questions about his life in the western Ukraine and his impressions of Dnipropetrovsk. Starting the Independence Day topic we asked our PCV friends to tell about their celebration on the 4th of July that took place in Dnipropetrovsk.
The speaker of the club T. Gavryliuk explained how the Independence Day is usually celebrated in the USA. The explanation started with the video of the White House ceremonies on July, the 4th. July 4, is a day of patriotic celebration and family events throughout the country. The patriotic songs have become staples of U.S. Independence Day celebrations and reflect the nation’s history and the contributions of immigrants to the country’s diverse culture. The club members exchanged their opinions about this year’s fireworks and the White House video that was accompanied by popular American music.
