English Speaking club - Alaska Day

Alaska Day is a legal holiday in the U.S. state of Alaska, observed on October 18. It is the anniversary of the formal transfer of the Territory of Alaska from Russia to the United States which took place at a flag-raising ceremony at Fort Sitka on Friday October 18, 1867.
The topic of the meeting was Alaska Day.
The members of the club watched a slide-show and learnt the symbols of Alaska and its sights. The club-members found out that there were 6 National parks in Alaska.
Later people answered the question about the history of this state, Russian roots of this land.
We learnt the modern population, its occupation, traditions. We watched a video from Alaska of one club-member, participant of the program Work and Travel USA.
There were offered bright books from the Center WOA on geography of the USA.
Discussed the marvelous cake Bomb Alaska and even watched a video with a recipe of it. It was an interesting acquaintance with a wonderful corner of the USA.
Number of participants – 29 (specialists, students, schoolchildren, librarian)
