We have watched a documentary «VOA: America’s
Voice»
about the history of the Voice of America
(VOA) and the Bethany Relay Station located in West Chester, OH.
We have learned about the construction of VOA
by Crosley, the people involved throughout its history, and the impact it had
on the world.
From defeating Hitler and Nazi Germany to
reaching behind the Iron Curtain in the Soviet Union, VOA carried the message
of truth to the people under the rule of oppressive regimes. The historic
building of the Bethany Relay station is being preserved as a museum.
We have read and translated an article about
the VOA and the VOA Charter. The facts
and statistics were impressive. We have learned a lot of terms about radio and
TV broadcasting. Our PCV friend Patrick helped to explain some of the difficult
words used in the article.
Today, VOA offers its news content on the
Internet in all of its broadcast languages, some in a variety of
formats, including podcasts, online chats, and RSS feeds.
We have visited the VOA web page in Ukrainian.
The Club members introduced to our American friend some of the reporters and
their history.
Once the official discussion was over the club
members studied the book display on the TOEFL preparation, the newcomers had a
long conversation with PCV Patrick about his activities in Dnipropetrovs'k.
The number
of visitors – 23 persons.
