Speed English session in the Gabfest Club was dedicated to the topic «How will the Internet change the function of libraries?». The club members discussed the atmosphere of libraries, libraries’ changes, the best library they’ve ever been to, and other.

Future librarians and International Standards

The "Window on America" Center was visited by the students of the Dnipropetrovsk College for Culture, their major is “Library Science”. The group learned about the DOUNB Library statistics which give the idea about the different aspects of library work and the sources of new book arrivals. The WOA’s staff told the students about the history of the center, its mission, modern types of activities, the types of patrons who participate in various activities that help to learn English.
Students were introduced to the American Library Association (ALA), which is the driving force for the national library network. The ALA became the benchmark for Ukrainian libraries in project development and activities planning. The young people were invited to join the youth section of the Ukrainian Library Association and to learn how to be creative and innovative in a Ukrainian library, how to surprise the world with extraordinary library projects.

Library Lesson for school students

A library lesson for the 6th year students (2 groups)  from school # 141 was conducted by the WOA Centre Head Svitlana Usenko.
Students have learned about the importance of libraries in modern life; saw the images of the best libraries of the world. They were introduced to the basic library technologies for readers: how to search for information, how to use the library catalogues – both paper-based and electronic.
The most appreciated information was about the free resources for English learners available at the Window on America Center and the Foreign Literature department of the DOUNB Library.
In the final part of the lesson the guests were offered a screening of popular American animated cartoons and an American English karaoke session.
Number of participants – 30 persons (28 students and 2 teachers).
