Basic English 5.10.: Graduation. Knowledge is a present for yourself.
Graduation of «Basic English 5.0.» group took place today at the Window on America center in Dnipro.
The group had a 20 hour language course within the framework of the project “Express-English at the DOUNB Library”. The instruction was provided by the library staff member Tamara Gavryliuk who has the University degree equivalent of the MA in ESLT.
The course was based on free resources from the internet and focused on basic of the English language (alphabet, phonetics, reading rules, comprehension).
During 10 educational sessions the students practiced reading exercises and are now able to read and understand longer texts. Some of them can even tell short stories about themselves.
Lexical exercises with important cross-cultural information will help the English learners to use the Basic English in communication with foreigners in Ukraine and abroad.
The group was very grateful for the new skills and promised to visit WOA’s English-speaking events.

The “Wednesday Movie Club” at Window on America center Dnipro, Ukraine had watched Noah.
Noah is a 2014 American epic biblical drama film co-written and directed by Darren Aronofsky, written by Ari Handel, and inspired by the story of Noah's Ark from the Book of Genesis. The film stars Russell Crowe as Noah, along with Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth and Anthony Hopkins. The film was released in North American theaters on March 28, 2014, in 2D and IMAX, while several countries released a version of the film converted to 3D and IMAX 3D.
Noah received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed over $362 million worldwide, but generated controversy with audiences
Plot: A man is chosen by his world's creator to undertake a momentous mission before an apocalyptic flood cleanses the world.
The film features a musical score by Oscar-winning composer John Williams.
WOA’s patrons enjoyed the film and the discussion that followed.

Activate English. 5.9.: “We are ready for summer traveling!”
The Activate English Group #5 at DOUNB library is an integral part of the EXPRESS-ENGLISH course offered to the Window on America Dnipro visitors in year 2017.
The Activate English Group 5.9. had a session today. All the participants found the session educational and helpful.
The students who attended all 10 lessons of the course will receive Certificates of Attendance.

"Window on America” Dnipro continues to participate in the project “WOA Special” from the famous US broadcaster “Voice of America”.
The project is offered by the "Voice of America”’s Ukrainian service and the popular Ukrainian journalist Zoreslav Baydyuk who works in the USA.
Today WOA’s regular patrons - students of the "Basic English" Express Course – arrived to the class earlier than usual to watch a documentary. This afternoon they will learn about innovative approaches to agri-business in the USA.
Our Ukrainian viewers were surprised that in US the popularity of agri-tourism is growing. Both children and adults are interested in growing vegetables. Natural dairy products can now be purchased from farmers and urban gardens where people grow vegetables themselves become very popular.
The Americans have realized the value of organic vegetables, the food waste issues are also debated in the communities.
To encourage Ukrainians to engage into agri-business in Ukraine the film-makers suggest such source of income as breeding of alpacas - South American lamas.
We are grateful to the Voice of America’s Ukrainian service and the US State Department for the opportunity to learn more interesting and helpful facts about the life in USA .We will additionally announce the screening of the next VOA’s series.

Dnipro WOA and TEACHERS’ TRAINING EVENT.
This afternoon WOA staff helped the Dnipro City Education Department to host a training session for the English teachers at the DOUNB Library. The WOA’s equipment was used during the seminar for secondary school teacher on Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT). This test provided by Cambridge English is ideal for people who want to prove their teaching knowledge with a globally recognized certificate. The WOA staff presented the Center’s resources to the Dnipro city teachers and invited them to cooperate in English study and intercultural education.

Dnipro Window on America center REWARDS the ACTIVIST WOA’s loyal patron and volunteer Serhij Barabash on occasion of his birthday received a Gratitude letter from the facility. Being an engineering student of the local University Serhij regularly attends different departments the DOUNB Library. Besides, he is keen on improving his knowledge of the English language and is an activist of the Gabfest English speaking Club. Among Serhij’s volunteer help to WOA was a school visit with the presentation "Winter in our city", help with routine activities at the WOA center. Much appreciated was Serhij’s help at the WOA Center during the repair period: he helped to move the furniture and equipment and to clean the office after the repair.

This afternoon the WOA’s speaking club session (in Dnipro Window on America center, Ukraine) was attended by foreign guests from the USA and the UK.
During the first part of the session Mr. Edison made a presentation about his home state Arizona. He presented the nature, the main industries, the food and culture, the universities and the major tourist attractions of Arizona. The group was impressed with the Monument Valley, rodeos and other Edison’s stories about Arizona.
The second part of the session was dedicated to the conversation about EU visa-free entry for Ukrainians. The group was offered new vocabulary about navigating boarder control. The topic was also illustrated with relevant videos about visa waiver for Ukrainians.

The foreign guests and club members shared funny stories about border crossing in various countries. The lucky owners of Ukrainian biometric passports mentioned the features of the advanced technology documents.
At the end of the session the UK guest Mr. Armando gifted the Union Jack flag to the Gabfest Club.
The session was educational and urges the club members to increase their tourist mobility in Summer time.

This afternoon the session of the Basic English Group 5.9. took place at the DOUNB Library in Window on America Dnipro (Ukraine). The Group was founded as a training site for people who never studied English or for those who need to return to the basics of the language.
The Basic Group was familiarized with the vocabulary to the topic “FOOD”. The text by Ogden showed the students how to operate basic verbs and substitute complex meanings with simple grammatical constructions. The members of the group are now able to describe "My breakfast". All the participants found the session educational and helpful.
